oneAPI Centers of Excellence contribute to open accelerated computing, propelling the next generation of innovation with open standards, collaboration, and support as part of this ecosystem. Led by top influencers in academia and industry, a oneAPI Center of Excellence delivers the acceleration and adoption of oneAPI, enabling open source code bases, curriculum development, and furthering the oneAPI ecosystem initiative. Primarily, they drive innovation for open, standards-based, cross-architecture, unified programming models.
The Cambridge Open Zettascale Lab is now part of the oneAPI academic community and Centers of Excellence. The Lab is focused on porting significant exascale candidate codes to oneAPI. These include CASTEP, FEniCSx, and AREPO.
AREPO is a massively-parallel code for gravitational N-body systems and magnetohydrodynamics. It is a flexible code that can be applied to different types of problems, offering a number of sophisticated simulation algorithms.
CASTEP is one of the widely used exascale codes for calculating the properties of materials from first principle. CASTEP code scales well on traditional supercomputers, but the future of supercomputing is in heterogeneous systems. oneAPI helps them use these resources effectively through the OpenMP* 5.0 offloading of computation to Intel GPUs and using Intel® oneAPI Math Kernel Library for efficient GPU acceleration of math functions.
In addition, our Centre of Excellence offers courses and workshops with highly skilled software engineering experts who teach oneAPI methodologies and tools for compiling and porting code, as well as for optimising performance.
